1st-7th June 2012
7 Boaz volunteers share their stories to celebrate!
Evermore Mwadiwa is my name and I have engaged in various voluntary activities with the Boaz Trust. Specifically I have assisted the Boaz Trust by volunteering at the Manchester Church of Christ drop-in centre in Cheetham Hill. The activity ran from January 2012 and provided a safe and warm space for destitute asylum seekers who have nowhere to go during the day between 11am – 3pm. The centre was also responsible for providing a hot meal and activities for the clients who attended. I was one of the volunteers who attended these activities and assisted in the cooking, cleaning and other various activities as and when required.
My current volunteer activity with the Boaz Trust is through assisting in the English Beginners Class as a classroom assistant. This involves helping some individuals with low literacy levels, who need extra attention to help them complete tasks or understand classroom instructions. My availability in this activity as another volunteer classroom assistant allows for one-on-one support to be given to the clients when needed.
I have enjoyed working within the community and giving back the kind of support I have also received in the past. My challenge was juggling around childcare issues which I overcame.
Making a positive contribution into other people’s lives in the above activities has given me great fulfilment and pleasure. I love working and being involved with people from within the community who are in a vulnerable position.
